PTFF joins June Gallery Walk with Silent Auction & Film Chat

As a follow-up to the Oscar® party we didn’t have, the Port Townsend Film Festival will participate instead in the June Gallery Walk with a better-late-than-never auction at a temporary downtown storefront, 213 Taylor Street.

Visitors can chat with Festival volunteers about films and view and bid items on display on Saturday and Sunday, June 7th & 8th. Many wonderful items have been donated by area businesses, artists, and individuals.

Starting at 11:00 a.m. both days, the temporary storefront (in the former office of attorneys Harris, Mericle, and Wakayama, who have moved upstairs in the Mount Baker Block) will be open to showcase artwork, gift baskets, and gift certificates for purchase and/or for bid, all to raise money for the upcoming ninth annual Port Townsend Film Festival taking place September 26-28, 2008.

Gallery Walk is a monthly art tour in downtown on the first Saturday each month from 5:30-8 p.m. A variety of exhibits go on display at galleries and other shops highlighting the abundance of wall art available locally.

CateItems include:

A Cate Blanchett highlight clip on DVD of her entire performance in “I’m Not There,” the 2007 film about songster Bob Dylan which brought her an Academy Award® nomination

RoyA Roy Rogers memorabilia collection

A Gift Basket donated by Petals Flower Shop,

Oil Painting Kit & Easel donated by Belltower Art,

and many many other exciting things including local art and jewelry.

Come see the first public outing of the new 2008 festival poster with an image by Port Townsend artist Cliff Finity! You will also be able to buy passes, memberships, and tickets for our annual raffle for a red festival pass!
The Port Townsend Film Festival would like to thank all sponsors and everyone who donated so generously to make this event a success.

Passes Now On [SPECIAL] Sale

PassesBrochureOn Monday, June 2, the good staff at the Port Townsend branch of the US Post Office (thank you, Cindy, Carole and Butch) began distributing more than two thousand five-hundred pass and ticket information brochures for the 9th annual Port Townsend Film Festival which will unspool September 26-28 in what promises to be the nicest autumn on record (or so we think we deserve).

Two [SPECIAL] deals abound:

A question has been raised on the value of a pass versus advanced tickets. Some history on this matter: The sale of advanced tickets was inaugurated primarily for folks from out-of-town who were unwilling to come to Port Townsend for one or two movies without some kind of guarantee that they would be admitted. That’s not to say that advanced tickets aren’t or shouldn’t be available to local residents. They indeed are. But unless you’re unable to attend more than one or two movies, the pass is a better buy? Because?

If you’ve not received the pass brochure by the end of the week, give us a call at 360 379 1333, and we’ll get one in the mail. Or, you can stop by the office: 211 Taylor St (Mount Baker Block Building), Suite 32A (third floor).

Get Ready for Guess-the-Guest

?Each year the Port Townsend Film Festival conducts a contest to see who among our members, sponsors, and interested parties can guess who will be the year’s special guest. For three weeks beginning July 9, a clue to the identity of the annual guest will be posted on this eNewsletter each Wednesday. The winner and the identify of the guest will be announced on Wednesday, July 30.

In addition to the written clues, this year’s contest will include a visual clue each week to assist those who are more attuned to images than the written word. The clues will also be submitted to the Port Townsend Leader and the Peninsula Daily News for those who are Internet-less.

Previous guests have included Tony Curtis (2000), Eva Marie Saint (2001), Patricia Neal (2002), Shirley Knight (2003, with a special appearance by Peter Fonda), Jane Powell (2004), Debra Winger (2005), Malcolm McDowell (2006), and Elliott Gould (2007).

An advance clue: This year’s guest will maintain the gender imbalance.
